Ten minutes on foot from Baccagnano, Brisighella is a medieval gem tucked into the hills of Romagna. Recognized as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages (Borghi più belli d’Italia) and a Città Slow, it offers a pace of life that feels increasingly rare.
The Three Towers
Brisighella’s distinctive skyline features three structures on three separate rocky spurs:
Rocca Manfrediana
A 14th-century fortress built by the Manfredi lords of Faenza. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the valley and surrounding hills. The fortress hosts cultural events and exhibitions throughout the year.
Torre dell’Orologio
The clock tower, dating to the 13th century, stands on the ruins of an earlier defensive structure. Its clock has been marking time for the village for centuries.
Santuario del Monticino
An 18th-century sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna, built on the site of a miraculous apparition. A peaceful spot with views over the rooftops.
Via degli Asini
The “Donkey Road” is Brisighella’s most famous street—and one of the most unusual in Italy. This raised, covered walkway was built in the 14th century as part of the village’s defensive walls.
The name comes from its later use by birocciai (cart drivers) and their donkeys, who would pass through on their way to transport goods. Today, the arched openings that once served as defensive positions frame views of the village below.
Food & Drink
Brisighella is a food destination in its own right:
Olive Oil DOP
Brisighella’s extra virgin olive oil has Protected Designation of Origin status. Made primarily from the local nostrana di Brisighella cultivar, it’s prized for its delicate, fruity flavor. Visit during the November harvest to see (and taste) the new oil.
Local Restaurants
The village center has several excellent trattorias serving traditional Romagna cuisine. Ask us for recommendations—we have our favorites.
Weekly Market
Every Thursday morning, the market brings local producers to the main piazza.
